A train of thought followed on from "pushing a boulder up a hill". Three months into 2009 and I've not yet been unable to decide on which fiction story to develop this year because ego is once again getting in the way of the writing. Wanting my first book to be "good" is freezing me like a rabbit in headlights.
I need to remind myself to treat this first book as a practice novel, a learning experience, then I can relax and get on with it. It will be a big motivation boost to finish a novel in a year, however it turns out.

- 'Escaping into the Open' by Elizabeth Berg ~ a gentle guide to help you get started. Ideal for someone new to writing.
- 'Lights! Camera! Fiction!' by Alfie Thompson ~ excellent on all story aspects and an easy read. Treat yourself -learn and enjoy!
- 'Hooked' by Les Edgerton ~ a great 2nd level book to help improve a first draft
- 'Plot & Structure' by James Scott Bell ~ best primer on how to write a novel. Packed with encouragment and helpful techniques.
